MAINTAINING WELLBEING DURING LOCKDOWN

The last few weeks have been difficult for many of us with the Office for National Statistics reporting a third of the population are struggling with post-lockdown anxiety. Our inability to meet loved ones, uncertainty for the future, and restricted freedoms are all taking a toll on our wellbeing. This makes incorporating self-care into our daily routines more important than ever before. Here at Ellie Lines we would like to share some of the little things we have been doing to maintain our wellbeing during these unsettling times.

Settling Down with a Good Book

A great way to get away from everything at the moment is through reading. There is nothing like curling up on a sofa with your nose between the pages of a book, escaping from the world around you. One of the books we have been reading at the moment is Notting Hill Editions’ ‘On Dogs’. This little anthology explores the special relationship between humankind and our favourite four-legged creatures, with contributors including Miranda Hart and Virginia Woolf. Our own brand ambassador, Ellie’s dog Chester, says this is the greatest book ever written (at least we think that is what he said). Another book that we have been reading is ‘A Garden From A Hundred Packets of Seeds’ which is perfect for those whose love for nature has been reawakened over the last few weeks. Don’t forget to light one of Sophie James Mayfair’s delicious candles to really enrich the reading experience.

Getting Creative

One of the best ways to fight boredom and destress is to find ways of being creative. A number of celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon have been seen picking up their paintbrushes and making art as means of relaxation during these difficult times. Another, less messy, form of art is that of writing. Whether it be diary keeping, creative writing, or poetry, expressing yourself on paper is an easy cathartic practice you can add to your day. Notting Hill Editions’ have a beautiful range of notebooks that you can use to jot down in whenever you feel like it, whilst This Girl is Mighty’s Draw Your Own World pencils are sure to inspire your next novel.

Potions and Lotions

Going to the spa is now unfortunately a thing of the past as social-distancing measures look to be staying in place for the foreseeable future. This does not mean, however, that you cannot treat yourself from your own home. Saskia’s Flower Essences are a delightful range of natural remedies lovingly hand-made in the UK. They work deeply and gently to bring positive and effective change to your lives by acting as catalysts and enabling you to heal in a safe, natural, and simple way. Her Breathe Deep, Seek Peace combination essence is an award-winning sleep product that helps to prevent worry, whilst her Strength and Support essence is the perfect pick-me-up for the days when you are feeling a little down. In the evening you can also relax with Nathalie Bond’s divine range of organic skincare. Her skin balms, available in Unwind and Sunshine, are great at the end of the day for making you feel thoroughly pampered. To truly complete the spa experience remember to wear a pair of fluffy slippers, such as Laines London’s beaded lobster slip-ons. Go on - your feet deserve it.
